General UV installation and Maintenance

There are two methods to install a UV sterilizer.  As a safety caution, NEVER LOOK INTO the UV sterilizer when the unit is plug in!  The lamp emits ultraviolet radiation, which is harmful when exposed to skin and eyes.  Unplug the unit prior to maintenance and installation. Please do not turn on the unit for more than 1 minute without water running throught it. It may damage the unit.

First method is to install it with an external pump. The pump is included with your purchase if you brought it from

Installation Diagram for method 1

  •   Set up the UV Sterilizer:  Screw on the clear blue Inlet/outlet hose connectors to the main UV sterilizer as shown below in the picture.
  • Install the pump:  Please see picture for reference.
  • Push pump nose (#2) into the aquarium pump (#1).
  • Gently fit pump intake cover (#3) onto pump nose and pump.
  • Install the four suction cups (#5) onto the base (#4)
  • When you done with the installation of the aquarium pump.  It should look like the following.
  • Now you can fit the suction cup holder onto the pump.  It should look like the following when completed.
  • Now you have completed the basic installation separately for the pump and UV sterilizer.  To connect the pump with the UV sterilizer, you will need two connecting hoses.  The hoses were not included in the purchase.  However, you can easily buy the hoses from any hardware or pet stores.  It should be a ¾” opening hose.  One of the hoses will connect to the pump and the second one to the inlet/outlet connectors on the UV sterilizer.  The length of the hoses depends on where you want to place your UV unit and the height of your aquarium tank.  If this is for a pond installation, find the best place to place your UV sterilizer unit and measure the length from there.

    Let's complete the installation.

  • Connect the first hose to the pump and one of the inlet/outlet hose connector of the UV Sterilizer.  (both end are connected)
  • Connect the second hose to the other inlet/outlet hose connector of the UV Sterilizer.  (one end is not connected)
  • Now place the pump into your aquarium and firmly secure the pump suction cups against the aquarium glass.  If this is a pond installation, place the pump in a secure position.  Use suction cups if possible to secure the pump.
  • Place the 2nd hose (the unconnected end of step 4 above) into your aquarium or pond.
  • The UV sterilizer unit also comes with two installation bracket.  You can secure your unit onto your aquarium stand, not inside the tank.

Second Installation Method for UV Sterilizer

If you have an external canister filter like the Jebo 838 Canister Filter, you can install the UV sterilizer unit without the aquarium pump included in the package.

Installation Diagram for method 2

  • First stop the Canister filter and make sure there is no water flow through the existing hose.
  • You can install the unit on the inlet or outlet of the canister filter hose.
  • Assume you install on the outlet (recommended).
  • Find a spot where you can secure the UV sterilizer.
  • First cut the outlet hose where you think will best fit your UV unit.
  • Connect the 2 ends to the UV sterilizer inlet/outlet hose connectors.

Replace UV light bulb instructions

Please disconnect UV unit from power source before doing any maintenance on the UV unit!

Please also detach unit from the water pump or any water source by disconnecting the inlet/outlet hose.

Please make sure the unit has cool down before attempting any maintenance on it.

  • Carefully open the unit by turning the unit cap COUNTER clock-wise.
  • After you open the cap, you will see the UV bulb attached to the power source. Carefully pull out the bulb and replace with a new bulb. Make sure the connectors and the light bulb stay dry.
  • Tighten up the cap and reconnect to inlet/outlet. Turn on the water source and examine for leaks. If the unit is tighen properly with no water leaks, then you are done.  That's it!
